Federal Firearms Licenses - Definitions of the Various FFL and SOT License Types

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Ever since the gun control act of 1968 was passed, the manufacture and sale of firearms is only possible by those in possession of a Federal Firearms License, (FFL). In order to obtain one of these licenses, an application must be filed with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This form is known as ATF form 7, and can cover a number of different types of licenses. An outline of the different types and special operation tax classes, (SOT) for NFA firearms are listed and outlined below.

First, the FFL license types:

Type–Description–Fee

1 Dealer in firearms, for other than destructive devices–$200

2 Pawnbroker for firearms, other than destructive devices–$200

3 Collector of Curio & Relic (C&R) firearms. Only for collecting and not to be used for buying and selling–$30.00

6 Manufacturer of ammunition and reloading components other than armor piercing ammunition

NFA, destructive–$150.00

7 Manufacturer of firearms, ammunition and ammunition components other than NFA, Destructive Devices and Armor Piercing Ammunition

8 Importer of firearms and ammunition other than destructive devices–150$

9 Dealer in destructive devices–$3000

10 Manufacturer of firearms, ammunition and ammunition components, including NFA destructive devices but no other NFA items, and not including armor piercing ammunition

11 Importer of firearms, ammunition and NFA destructive devices, but no other NFA items

For NFA, (National Firearms Act of 1934), firearms and ammunition the classification is as follows:

Class–Usage

Class 1 Importer of NFA firearms

Class 2 Manufacturer of NFA firearms

Class 3 Dealer of NFA firearms

One thing to note is that all firearms licenses are valid for a period of three years (3), and are non-transferable.

While at first this classification scheme may appear overly complex, if you spend a little time reading the law, it will start to make sense. If nothing else, i hope this brief outline will provide you with a much deeper appreciation for the complexity involved with obtaining and maintaining federal firearms licenses. If you’re interested in obtaining a federal firearms license, try not to be dissuaded by all the requirements.. Take your time, do your research, and seek out help when needed. It’s a very rewarding and profitable venture that will pay off for years to come.

Airsoft Gun Games - Some Basics

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Some background

These types of gun were developed back in the 1980’s in Japan. At the time a real gun was actually difficult to acquire so the airsoft gun was developed as an alternative option for those who were enthusiastic about guns.

So what are airsoft guns? They are non-lethal reproductions of real fire arms, either in the original size or a smaller version. They are divided into three types according to the way in which they are powered. The three groups are spring-powered, electric powered and gas powered. The first versions were spring-powered. Then came the electric powered guns and finally in the 1990’s we saw the growth of the gas-powered gun. Ammunition for these guns are plastic pellets varying size between 6mm and 8mm. These “bullets” or “bb’s” vary also in weight with the lightest being around 0.12 grams all the way up to 0.88 grams. Experts tend to use a bullet weighing around 0.2 or 0.25 grams as they are the best for accuracy and distance.

In the 1990’s fighting grounds developed where groups of gun enthusiasts could gather to indulge their interest in pretend “war games”. Here two people could fight each other or teams could compete with each other. As interest has grown in this “hobby” or “sport”, rules and game formats have developed along with the guns and gun accessories. Specially designated fight areas have also developed. Commentators suggest that airsoft gun games developed out of the paintball game.

Airsoft Game Formats

There are a number of game formats that you can be involved with including:

Prison Escape - here you are a prisoner and you have to try to escape with a few other prisoners down an escape tunnel.

Capture the Flag - two teams have their own flag that the other team is attempting to capture and take back to their base. Other games include - Stalkers, Manhunt and Last Player Standing.

The Rules

Although there are legal requirements around the use of the guns themselves, the rules for the game are more informal but contain some basic universal guidelines.

If the body or gear (but not the weapon) is hit, the player is out. When hit the player shouts “I’m hit” and raises his arm. After being hit the player must go to the safe zone. After the hit the players must not talk with each other Friendly fire counts as a hit.

Safety: Some Basics

For your own safety and the safety of other bear in the mind the following:

Do not show your guns in plain public view. Play air soft games in designated areas and not public places like parks etc. For personal safety wear goggles, a long sleeve shirt, and boots. Do not remove goggles while a game is in process. When in the designated safe zone always keep your guns safety on. Failure to comply may get you banned from a particular location.

So…. you are interested in airsoft games? Enthusiasts offer a word of caution. Soft maybe the name, but it is not for the soft-hearted. Are you prepared to be shot or to spend your time dodging bb’s? Still interested? It is recommended that you look for a knowledgeable company who can advise you on the best model of gun for your requirements. There are many suppliers on the internet.

Choose Them Wisely

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Your words are the very ammunition that can and will be used against you, so choose them wisely or say very little as possible.

The words you speak can be the most powerful ally you could ever team up with or the most destructive foe you will ever fight. They can be loving if received in love. But I have found them relentless, double-edged and sharp as diamond when manipulated by hateful intentions or careless hearts. Be careful of your words because they are the birth of blessing and the sentencing of selfishness.

One of the problems with words is that it doesn’t always matter what your intentions are, but the intentions of those that receive them and the matter in which they receive them. Never regret the words you speak in anguish; that brings condemnation, rather turn them over to the Lord and let Him do the repair. Never regret the words you speak in Love, just choose them wisely. Always seek guidance from Him before opening up your mouth and loosing the very comments that will bring you strife.

Refrain from telling lies, or answering too quickly. Admit to nothing that you cannot back up and don’t agree with something that you don’t agree. Stand strong in your opinion from the knowledge that you have, elaborate into details only when you have to and never commit to an answer that you are unsure of.

I say these things in Love and pray that you have not already fallen victim. It’s difficult when speaking in absolutes like “never” and “always”, so read this with a grain of salt and understand that I chose these words to highlight the severity and the costfulness of saying the wrong things to the ones you love.
